I got an iTouch
I’m posting this from my new iTouch!! So far it’s been really cool. Except the keyboard does take some getting used to; good thing I have small fingers.

Switching to Chrome
Last week my brother mentioned to me that he was considering switching to Chrome. He said that it was because Firefox was a resource hog and Chrome’s themes were better than any Persona or old style theme people could come up with. (Sadly, it’s true. Chrome’s themes are infinitely better than Firefox’s Persona’s or themes. More on that later.) I found myself nodding...

It's February Already?
Where does the time fly. I know I’ve been absent from Babblative since December and while I can’t say that I’m in the least bit remorseful for my absence, I can at least say that I’ve been working on content and a new design. I don’t know when you’ll see it, but you’ll see it eventually. I’m on my sixth or seventh layout draft (I think this...

Kissing Evolved To Spread Germs, Not Feelings →
It looks like your kindergarten gut reaction to kissing might have been correct after all: it really is sick. Or, more specifically, the practice is designed to spread sickness. British scientists say the human habit of kissing evolved for less-than-romantic reasons, but one that is nonetheless important to a healthy reproductive relationship: to spread germs.

Which Fingerless Glove Pattern Do You Like?
I want to knit a pair of fingerless gloves. The only problem is I’m fickle, persnickety and can never seem to make up my mind about what pattern I’d like to knit next. If I had a lot of time, money and the inclination, I’d probably say fuck it and knit all three. Unfortunately I do not have the time, money or the inclination to knit three different pairs of fingerless gloves...

Book Recommendations?
When I was younger my parents would read to me every night before bed, ten or so books then they’d leave them with me so that I could look at the pictures. I’d try my damnedest every night to squeeze as many readings as possible, but in spite of my very determined 3 year old self they resisted. The solution was clear: Learn to read. I was one weird kid, I dreamed of being able to...

Giant Crack in Africa Will Create a New Ocean →
A 35-mile rift in the desert of Ethiopia will likely become a new ocean eventually, researchers now confirm. The crack, 20 feet wide in spots, opened in 2005 and some geologists believed then that it would spawn a new ocean. But that view was controversial, and the rift had not been well studied. A new study involving an international team of scientists and reported in the journal Geophysical...

Pat Robertson Flips a Shit Over the Recently... →
Just found this blog in my Google Reader recommendations, this was the post that made me decide to subscribe. In the above video Pat Robertson asks the question, “What’s gonna happen if someone preaches a sermon: ‘Homosexuality is a sin. Here’s what the Bible says. Here’s chapter and verse.’ And all of a sudden, somebody leaves that congregation and goes up, beats up on somebody who is a...

Sponsored Posting: Screw You!
After the last post about WriteMonkey I got to thinking that about how sponsored posting has been increasing. I also got to thinking that my post looked kind of sponsor-ish. It’s not. I’ve never done any sponsored posting and I never intend to. I’ve never been compensated, but hey, if anyone wants to send me free things to review and keep I’m all game! Unfortunately...

App Recommendation:
Distraction free writing. Let’s give this a try. I’m writing this through a free text editor called WriteMonkey. I was originally looking for a Notepad replacement, I already use Notepad++ for all of my HTML and CSS needs, but try as I might I don’t like using it for a text editor. Maybe it’s because it feels weird using it for anything but HTML. Or maybe I’m just...

They Have Mass At Night, Right?
I’m considering letting Jebus into my life. What’s that you say? Level headed, logical, sane, reasonable Becky is going to give it all up and become another mindless moron suckling at the teat of the Pope? Maybe. See last night something happened that is making me wonder if my atheistic lifestyle of excess chocolate, socialistic (snicker) views on medicine and brightly coloured...

Either It's "Vintage" or Vintage...
You can’t just lump everything that looks old under the same category! C’mon peeps, back me up? (Yeah I wouldn’t back me up either after reading that last sentence.) Anyway, I went to that vintage “boutique” I mentioned last week and I found out two things: You can call something vintage and slap an obscene price tag on it. It doesn’t have to be old to...

I Took a Puff of a Smoke Today
It sucked. My mouth tasted like an ashtray. You can probably imagine it. Close your eyes and imagine the smell of a full ashtray. Got it? Good. Now imagine licking that ashtray. Yum. I still don’t know why people do it. It tastes like shit, there’s absolutely no good side effects and it kills you. I won’t be smoking tobacco again.

Oh, Lily...
You’ve probably already heard about how completely retarded Lily Allen is. If you haven’t then here’s the skinny: Lily Allen created a blog, now deleted, to help bolster the anti-piracy movement which, as you know, is immensely popular. And all things considered she did quite well at drawing attention to not only herself but her cause as well. Unfortunately pretty much all of...

Fall is Here
And it’s about goddamn time because fall is my favourite season! It’s so nice and clean and crisp and wonderful, don’t you love everything about fall, too? It’s better than spring because the snow is still melting around here until March, sometimes April. That, of course, makes everything soggy, mush and gross. Who wants that? No one I care to know. Fall on the other hand...

Vintage Boutique
Remember how I told you that I walked 5km yesterday? It wasn’t for naught, I found a vintage store! It’s tucked in beside Budds department store, I had just left Budds and was heading up to Shoppers Drug Mart (I needed a styptic pencil) and walked right past it. The wrinkled [$150] dress and the Pee Wee Herman doll were what caught my eye. Unfortunately it was closed and there were...

I Need a Notepad, a Pen and a Memory
I have all these great ideas for blog posts running around in my head and I never get around to putting them anywhere else. Like the time I counted out a bag of change that my dad had been accumulating over several months. The change gets heavy and burdensome, so he dumps the change out and uses bills. One day my brother finds all this change in the car (he’s cleaning it out), he brings...

Patrick Swayze
I’ll spare you the typical reporting of news, wailing over someone I never knew, who never knew I existed and whose movies never really touched me deep down. I’m not the sort to mourn a celebrity, it’s sad, but they aren’t important in my life. Michael Jackson dead? Call me when it’s my grandma. Don’t worry, I’m not about to start grieving publicly on my...

The Lure of Wikipedia
My dad loves The Andy Griffith Show, he watches it religiously, knows all kinds of trivia about it and has seen just about every single episode ever made at least 3 times. No kidding. Anyway last night I casually mentioned to him that he should read the Wiki page for the show because it has interesting information about the production, cast and characters. I pulled it up for him and he sat down...

The Internet: Does it Really Make People Stupid?...
It’s a common misconception that people who use the internet are invariably stupid and doomed for failure. They’re the people who always arrive late, never clean, tailgate you and think they’re smart because they like Arrested Development and they once heard that it was a smart comedy for smart people. Well I would like to propose an alternative theory: Stupid people don’t...
